There are hiragana, katakana and kanji in Japanese, aren’t there?
The katakana words originally came from foreign language.
It’s called 外来語(gairaigo) .
How many “gairaigo” do you know?
I have tried this experiment with my Canadian roommate.
Like I talked to a Japanese, I said “hamburger” and asked what I was saying.
She didn’t understand no matter how many times I repeated it.
You might feel that “gairaigo” sounds like a language of other planets.
However Japanese people think that English and “gairaigo” are almost same in pronunciation.
So that “gairaigo” can be understood by English-speaking foreigners.
